Beginning of the map
- Flunky
- Alright, let's get'em!
- Thief leader
- Attaboy! That's the spirit.
But, don't be too hasty. You
need to pick a card first.
- Flunky
- A card...?
- Thief leader
- A Tactics Card. The Cards are
crucial in battle,guys.
I'll go over this again, so
listen up.
Everything we can do in 1 turn
is written on the card.
- Flunky
- Oh,really? Like what?
- Thief leader
- Well, like "Mov," see? That
determines your Movement.
- Flunky
- You know I'm the fastest
runner, Boss!
- Thief leader
- Quiet, you! We're talking
about distance, not speed!
- Flunky
- Huh? B-But...
- Thief leader
- You can only move as many
steps per turn as the Mov.
- Flunky
- Oh. Then, I'll pick this "12"
card and go 12 steps ahead--
- Thief leader
- Wrong! Will you just listen
for one minute!?
Movement isn't just yours;it
belongs to everyone.
If you use all 12 steps, no
one else can move an inch.
- Flunky
- Oh, my bad! I didn't mean to
hog the card all to myself.
- Thief leader
- You can use all your Movement
on one guy if you want, but...
Going in solo is just cruising
for a bruising.
- Flunky
- Boss, what's this number next
to "POW"?
- Thief leader
- Oh, that? That's "Power."
The bigger the number, the more
damage dealt to the enemy!
- Flunky
- I get it... Where'd you learn
all this, Boss?
- Thief leader
- Whaddaya mean? Everyone
should know this stuff!
- Flunky
- Well, then what's this icon?
It looks just like my weapon!
- Thief leader
- That's the "Ace Type."
- Flunky
- The... Are you making this up?
- Thief leader
- No! It's the condition for a
unit to become the Ace.
You use axes, so...
Pick a card with an axe and
you'll be that turn's Ace.
- Flunky
- Seriously? Awesome!
...Um, so what's an Ace?
- Thief leader
- You guys... The Ace is the point
man for attacks.
He can do various things
besides that, but...
I dunno if you numbskulls can
understand it all.
- Flunky
- Oh! Oh! I have a question, too!
- Thief leader
- Alright, last one. What now ?
- Flunky
- The guys won't tell me what a
"Skill" is. Is it... you know...?
- Thief leader
- What are you talking about?
It's a special move.
- Flunky
- Oh, I knew it! That's so cool!
- Thief leader
- Uh, right... Sorry to burst your
bubble, but...
That stuff is above your guys'
level for now.
- Flunky
- Awww, man...
- Thief leader
- Ahh, buck up. You'll be able
to use'em someday.
Anyways, pick a card and let's
get to it.
Here we go!
First card chosen
- Thief leader
- Hey, I know you want to get
started right away...
But, let's review movement
just to be on the safe side.
- Flunky
- You mean how to move us units
on the Field Map?
- Thief leader
- First, use the +Control Pad and
move the cursor to a unit.
Then, press the A Button to
display the Movement Range.
- Flunky
- You mean those white squares?
- Thief leader
- Yep. You can move anywhere
within those panels.
- Flunky
- Okay. Lead the way, Boss.
- Thief leader
- Press the +Control Pad to
move in that direction.
To confirm your move, press
the A Button.
- Flunky
- Wait, wait, don't tell me... the
B Button cancels, right?
- Thief leader
- Right. And of course, moving
1 panel takes 1 Movement.
- Flunky
- That's the number at the bottom
of the card?
- Thief leader
- That's right. That indicates
your remaining Movement.
Once it hits 0, no one can move
anymore for that turn.
- Flunky
- Don't worry, Boss. I'll
remember!
- Thief leader
- Alright! Then, let's go!
Next to enemy
- Flunky
- Boss, the enemy's nearby!
- Thief leader
- Time for a few pointers on
battle, then.
First, select the unit you
want to lead the attack.
You do that by moving the
cursor onto it.
- Flunky
- Can it be anyone?
- Thief leader
- Sure, so long as they're
standing next to the enemy.
- Flunky
- Oh, okay! Maybe I better take
notes... Did I leave my pen...?
- Thief leader
- Uhh... Anyway, so after you
highlight a unit, press START.
The screen will switch to
Attack Mode.
- Flunky
- How do we decide who to fight?
- Thief leader
- You pick your opponent with
the +Control Pad.
- Flunky
- When I highlight one, the
enemies are listed by name.
- Thief leader
- That's the Battle Order.
That shows the order that the
listed units will fight in.
- Flunky
- How about those icons next to
the names, like ○ and △?
- Thief leader
- Good question. That's the
Prediction Mark.
Location, the units' abilities,
weapon affinities...
Those all factor into the
Prediction Mark rating.
- Flunky
- With info like this, we can't
lose! Am I right, guys?
- Thief leader
- Uhh... no. It's only a prediction.
Don't rely too heavily on it.
- Flunky
- S-Sure!
- Thief leader
- If you think you've got a good
chance, press the A Button.
That'll give you one last
confirmation screen...
Press A Button there, and it's
time for battle!
- Flunky
- B-But we can still use the B
Button to cancel...
Win
- Flunky
- Wooo! We won, Boss!
- Thief leader
- Psh, was there any doubt? We'd
never lose to those weaklings.
- Flunky
- Still, we're on a roll! C'mon,
let's keep the streak going!
- Thief leader
- Well... You can't. You can only
battle once per turn.
- Flunky
- Awww... Then we just gotta sit
on our hands?
- Thief leader
- Oh, no. you can still move if
you've got Movement left.
It's just the unit that did
battle who can't.
- Flunky
- Oh, so that's why the lead
attacker's unit is grey...
- Thief leader
- Once you're done with
everything...
press the L Button and select
"End Turn."
- Flunky
- Hey, another confirmation
screen!
- Thief leader
- That's the one. Press the A
Button to end the turn.
1 enemy left
- Flunky
- We've got'em on the run,
Boss.
- Thief leader
- Yeah! That'll teach'em to
mess up our hideout.
I'm sure you noticed when you
were fighting, but...
If all your men fall during a
clash, you lose.
- Flunky
- So long as we all survive,
we win, don't we?
- Thief leader
- Yeah. But if your unit loses...
Morale will decrease according
to how bad you got whomped.
- Flunky
- So, if we lose big time, our
Morale will go down a lot...?
- Thief leader
- It depends a lot on the card's
Power, too.
- Flunky
- Well... What if the unit's
Morale hits 0?
- Thief leader
- You saw for yourselves with
those enemies we fought...
Units with 0 Morale are
outta there.
- Flunky
- Yeesh... Hey! Guys! Try not to
lose, okay?
Next to enemy
- Milanor
- Are you sure you can fight?
- Yggdra
- I have only held this sword
for a few days, it's true...
...But, my will is stronger than
anyone else's!
- Milanor
- That's... not as reassuring as
you probably think.
Alright, I'll teach you a
little trick.
- Yggdra
- A little trick?
- Milanor
- Yeah. It's easy, so you'll have
no problem using it.
Try holding Left or Right
while in a clash.
It'll change your troop's
tactics a bit.
- Yggdra
- Hold Right for Aggressive,
and Left for Passive moves.
- Milanor
- "Aggressive" is just like it
says.
Your Power will increase, so
battles will be easier.
- Yggdra
- I see how that would prove
useful...
- Milanor
- But the gauge at the top'll
drain, so be careful.
- Yggdra
- I understand.
- Milanor
- Now "Passive," on the other
hand, is a slower style.
Your Power will go down, but
the gauge'll increase.
It's best to use it against
real cream puffs.
- Yggdra
- I understand now. Thank you.
- Milanor
- (Is she just saying that...?)
Alright. Let's both give it
everything we've got!
Win
- Yggdra
- Um...I have a question about
battle...
- Milanor
- Hm? What's up?
- Yggdra
- Does something special happen
when the gauge fills up?
- Milanor
- Well... Not right now...
- Yggdra
- ......?
- Milanor
- Later, you'll be able to use
Skills when that bar is full...
But, right now you just don't
have the know-how.
- Yggdra
- Oh, I see...
Then, I shall master those
skills... to free my kingdom!
- Milanor
- Attagirl!
Beginning of the first enemy's turn
- Milanor
- Oh, I almost forgot to tell
you...
- Yggdra
- Yes?
- Milanor
- Have you noticed the enemy's
gauge?
- Yggdra
- The enemy's gauge...?
- Milanor
- That little gauge under the
enemy during a clash.
- Yggdra
- Oh! I have, now that you
mention it...
- Milanor
- That's the "Rage Rate."
It builds up over time, and
has 3 states.
Normal mode is when the Rage
Rate isn't full.
Rage mode starts when the
gauge fills all the way...
If it fills all the way twice,
that starts up MAX mode.
- Yggdra
- So... Normal, Rage, then MAX.
- Milanor
- Their power increases in Rage
and MAX modes, so be careful.
- Yggdra
- MAX is where the enemy is at
their limits, right?
Then, should we be careful
against these men?
- Milanor
- Heh... Judging by these guys...?
Nah, I'd say we've got nothing
to worry about for now.
Battle Field 3-2 First card chosen
- Yggdra
- Durant, there are so many
enemies...
Can't we make up for the
difference in numbers?
- Durant
- As you say, we are at a
disadvantage,but...
There is a proven strategy to
defeating large armies.
- Yggdra
- What is it?
- Durant
- It utilizes formations, and is
known as "Uniting."
- Milanor
- Formations,huh... Not something
you pick up as a thief.
- Flunky
- Yeah, this's the first I've
heard of it, Boss.
- Durant
- Then, allow me to explain.
Uniting is where several units
join forces against an enemy.
- Yggdra
- ...So all units should Unite?
- Durant
- Where possible, yes. However,
there are limitations...
Unions can only form in certain
points around the Union Leader.
- Milanor
- (Union Leader...? He must mean
the lead attacker.)
- Flunky
- (My thoughts exactly, Boss.)
- Durant
- Now, about those certain
points...
Formations have 2 types.
The first Formation is the
"x type."
This is when male unit
becomes the Union Leader.
- Milanor
- That's the type for you and
me,right?
- Durant
- Indeed,Esq.Milanor,we are
both males.
Here, other units should be
diagonal from the Leader.
The other Formation is the
"+ type..."
This is the Formation that
occurs with a female Leader.
- Yggdra
- Which would be me.
- Durant
- Precisely, Princess.
Units should be directly in
line with the Leader.
- Milanor
- Hmmm... It sounds hard to pull
off.
- Durant
- I assure you, it's less
difficult than it seems.
You can check Formations in
the Battle Order,so...
I've no doubt you'll get used
to them soon enough.
- Milanor
- Yeah, maybe you're right.
- Yggdra
- We should definitely be careful
of everyone's position now.
Battle Field 3-2 Second card chosen
- Durant
- Princess, there is one more
thing to consider in battle.
- Yggdra
- What is that?
- Durant
- We must listen to the people.
There are all manner of people
living in this land.
They're displayed as icons on
the Field Map, so...
If you have time, you should
pay them a visit.
- Yggdra
- Thank you. I'll remember that.
- Milanor
- Yeah... Hey, they might even
give you some treasure!
- Yggdra
- ............
First card chosen
- Milanor
- Looks like the enemy leader
here is a knight.
- Durant
- Indeed, it would appear so.
Best to leave him to you,
Esq. Milanor.
- Yggdra
- I'll fight, too!
- Durant
- Ah... Your weapon affinity may
make it difficult, Princess...
- Yggdra
- My... weapon affinity?
- Durant
- Just so.
Each weapon type reacts to
other weapons differently.
Spears are strong against
swords, swords against axes...
And axes are, naturally,
strong against spears.
- Yggdra
- I wield the Holy Sword, so...
- Durant
- A spear-using Knight would be
especially strong against you.
- Yggdra
- I guess I should hold back...
- Milanor
- Ahh, just leave him to me!
- Durant
- But, Esq. Milanor!
- Milanor
- Huh?
- Durant
- The soldiers around him all
carry swords, so stay alert...
- Milanor
- Tch... Alright. I'll leave the
small fry to you!
- Durant
- I swear upon my lance to lead
us to victory!
First card chosen
- Milanor
- A lakeside battle, huh? Nice
place for a clash.
- Durant
- The blue squares represent
water.
- Yggdra
- Are we going to fight in the
water?
- Durant
- Alas, it would be impossible
for us to enter the water.
Only Undines can effectively
fight in aquatic territory...
One's Move type must be
"Swim," in other words.
- Milanor
- Geez, what a bothersome
piece of terrain...
6-2 First card chosen
- Yggdra
- Why is the Empire here...?
- Durant
- Those masked soldiers are
Assassins... They wield bows.
- Milanor
- Bows, huh?
Hey Durant, what weapon's
strong against bows?
- Durant
- As the chart shows, our swords,
spears, and axes... let me see...
Compared to the other two
types, bows and rods...
Ah! Our weapons are strong
against bows and weak to rods.
- Milanor
- Huh. Sounds like everything's
going our way, then!
- Durant
- Quite. But, we still must be
careful.
Beginning of the map
- Durant
- Up ahead is Florand, where
Queen Emelone resides.
Princess, are you not tired
from the constant fighting?
- Yggdra
- No, I'm fine. It's regrettable,
but I've become used to it.
- Milanor
- Yeah, she's starting to look
like a pro...
I think she's ready for
special moves!
- Durant
- Then, I will instruct you on
using Skills.
First, the necessary
conditions:
The "Ace Type" of the card
picked at the turn's start...
...and the Union Leader's Weapon
Type, must be identical.
If that condition is not met,
you cannot use the Skill.
- Yggdra
- I carry the Holy Sword, so...
If I pick a card with a sword
icon on it...
Ah! "Banish" shall suffice.
Then, on that turn...
If I become the Union Leader,
everybody can use the Skill?
- Durant
- Exactly.
For future reference,units
that can become the Ace glow...
So, there needn't be any
doubt as to the candidates.
- Yggdra
- I understand. Thank you.
- Milanor
- Now, I'll tell you how to use
these Skills you've set up.
Skills are used in battle.
But, you can only use skills
when the gauge is full.
You can either wait for it to
fill up, or use Passive Mode.
...When it fills up, take a good
look at the gauge.
- Yggdra
- ?
- Milanor
- You should see either an "A"
or "B" icon.
That tells you which control
type the Skill is.
- Yggdra
- There's a difference between
controlling A and B types?
- Milanor
- You got it.
First, I'll explain the A
type.
For the A type, just press the
A Button to initiate it.
The Skill will last as long as
you hold down the A Button.
While you do so, of course,
the Skill Gauge'll go down...
So if you want to end it early,
just let go of the A Button.
- Yggdra
- Hold A Button to use, let go
to stop... I understand.
- Milanor
- Alright. now on to B type
Skills.
When you press the B Button...
The "Charge Gauge" appears.
As you hold B Button down,
the gauge will fill up.
When it's full, let go to use
the Skill.
Once you use it, though the
gauge'll reset.
- Yggdra
- Hold the B Button to charge,
and let go when full... Right?
- Milanor
- Now you're getting it!
- Yggdra
- I should be able to handle it,
I feel.
- Durant
- Princess, some Skills have
specific conditions.
- Milanor
- No one but me can use Steal,
for example.
- Durant
- You can see the details at the
Card Status screen.
It may be prudent to check
them when you have time.
- Yggdra
- I understand. I'll take it
one step at a time.
Second card chosen
- Milanor
- These guys aren't kidding
around!
- Yggdra
- Those proud warriors of water
will not let us pass easily.
- Durant
- These foes share one of our
strong points. Like us...
...They can use skills when
their Rage Rate is at MAX.
- Yggdra
- We should be aware of what card
the enemy is using,as well.
- Durant
- Know thine enemy...
Understanding his abilities is
the first step toward victory.
- Milanor
- What a pain... Well, it's better
than getting trounced, I guess.
Water frozen
- Milanor
- Hey, the water froze!
- Durant
- Such is the effect of the
Undine's Diamond Dust.
That skill changes standing
water into ice.
- Yggdra
- My goodness...
- Durant
- Ah, I suppose you've never seen
an entire lake freeze over.
This will affect our strategy,
so I should explain somewhat.
Ice is a temporary geographic
feature when water freezes.
When this happens, we can move
on formerly impassable land.
- Yggdra
- Oh, how useful!
- Durant
- However...
By noon the next day, the ice
will melt and revert to water.
- Milanor
- Wait one minute!
What happens to us if we're
standing on it at the time ?
- Durant
- Unfortunately, we would sink
to the bottom...
- Yggdra
- R-Really!?
- Durant
- Quite so. Please, be careful
when moving about on the ice.
A card chosen after Ankh attack
- Yggdra
- That light... I feel a strong
energy from it.
- Milanor
- If someone gets hit by that,
it's over!
- Durant
- What manner of device has such
power behind it...?
- Roswell
- Heh... It's pure, crystallized
magic itself... The Ankh.
- Yggdra
- The...Ankh?
- Roswell
- I see... I'll explain the Ankh
myself, then.
The Ankh is a weapon that can
amplify magic many times over.
That energy becomes light, and
rains down on the enemy...
But, you saw it yourself. That
light is our power.
- Milanor
- That's crazy...
- Roswell
- That light shall lead us to
victory.
- Durant
- It sounds somewhat similar to
our Cannons...
- Roswell
- Ha... It can't be compared to
such crude weaponry.
Our Ankh is a work of art. In
addition...
it can be used at night,
unlike those useless cannons.
- Yggdra
- What a dangerous weapon...
- Roswell
- It's folly to fear power. What
matters is he who wields it.
- Yggdra
- ............
First card chosen
- Yggdra
- What is that?
- Milanor
- Hm? What is what?
- Yggdra
- That thing that looks like...
large, wooden scales.
- Durant
- That is a catapult,a weapon
used in battle.
Catapults can launch rocks at
the enemy while you attack.
- Milanor
- Oh? That could come in handy.
- Yggdra
- How do you use it?
- Durant
- While preparing your attack...
Simply include the catapult
in your formation.
- Milanor
- So, they work just like
regular Unions, huh?
- Durant
- That is correct. But, remember...
You can only use catapults
on your turn.
- Yggdra
- What happens to them when it
isn't our turn?
- Durant
- There is a chance the enemy
will use the catapults, too.
- Yggdra
- We must guard against that.
then...
First card chosen
- Durant
- Princess, we have almost
reached Paltina.
- Yggdra
- Yes, we have...
For Mother, Father... and all
the fallen soldiers...
I swear upon this sword, I
will reclaim our capital!
- Milanor
- Well, you sound ready and
raring to go!
But, the Capital's gonna be
filled with enemies.
We've got a way to compensate
for that, right Durant?
- Durant
- Of course, Esq. Milanor.
It is a technique that expands
on the Union system...
It is called Linking.
In the Link system...
It's possible to expand your
Union...
...by linking from units within
the formation.
- Yggdra
- We can cover more ground that
way,right?
- Durant
- That is correct.
Just like formations,links
have 2 types.
- Yggdra
- I see... The shapes are the same,
"X" and "+", but shorter.
- Milanor
- Well, that's easy enough to
remember.
- Durant
- Unlike the Empire, we have a
very limited number of troops.
We must unite and fight
together if we hope to win.
First card chosen
- Yggdra
- It is rather hot here...
- Durant
- Are you alright, Princess?
- Yggdra
- Yes...I'm fine.
- Milanor
- I wish I could tell you to
take a rest, but...
Without you, there'd be no
mission.
- Durant
- From here on is the scorching
Nyllard Desert.
Beyond that is our destination:
the Holy Land.
- Milanor
- A desert,huh... This won't be
an easy trip.
- Durant
- Indeed not. Marching through
the desert can be trying.
Excluding flying units, such
as Lady Kylier...
All units can only move 1
square per turn on the desert.
- Milanor
- What a royal pain... No offence,
Princess.
- Durant
- Fortunately, there is Minel
Road, made for merchants.
It would be best to stay close
to that road.
First card chosen
- Yggdra
- It looks like we must advance
through here...
- Milanor
- The air's kind of a funny
color here...
- Elena
- ...Everyone, be careful.
Drominos is filled with
poisonous marshes.
The poison marshes are purple,
so look out for them...
Every turn spent in the poison
marsh will result in damage...
Keep an eye on your remaining
Morale.
- Milanor
- Well, let's just sprint right
through this muck, then!
- Elena
- That will be difficult... You
see, this is a marsh, so...
Just like deserts, you can
only move 1 square per turn.
- Yggdra
- Can't we avoid them?
- Elena
- This is the only path to the
Imperial Capital...
We must simply steel ourselves
for it.
- Milanor
- ...I guess we don't have any
choice in the matter.
Nothing like swamp warfare
to brighten your day...
